What’s in a Name?

Why Deux Pigeons, you ask?

Pigeons are our spirit animals: sentimental (they mate for life and always return home), quietly poetic (they’ve carried love letters across centuries). They’re resilient, resourceful, and happiest in flocks — just like us around a table.

I have so many references to pigeons in my life (or doves - same bird, better PR). In particular, a 19th-century French ballet, Les Deux Pigeons, a tale with two birds that reminds us that happiness is found in returning home to what matters. Plus, tulle makes everything better.

That little story felt like the perfect emblem for what we’re building here: intentional living, nothing is mass produced (as it used to be), heirlooms that actually get used, and craft that’s rooted in care. And great flocks above, our daily deserves more!

And then there’s New York City — the city I love and have called home —where pigeons are everywhere, cooing on windowsills, strutting across sidewalks, and making the city feel alive. They mate for life (romantics in feathers), raise their young together, and keep returning home no matter how far they fly.  That’s exactly the kind of spirit we wanted to carry into Deux Pigeons: resilient, loving, and a little cheeky (minus the bread-crumb diet).

So in essence, Deux Pigeons - it’s a reminder. To not take for granted our time together, to treasure the ordinary, and to fill our nests with beauty and pieces that last. No wing flapping required!
